MIDA Annual Community Fundraiser 2022

HART is proud to announce our brand’s primary charitable giving focus: MIDA, an annual fundraiser for the Hamida Patrick Cancer Fund at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston, SC. MIDA is co-organized by our brand founder, Hart Hagerty, and Blaine Wise - loving friends of Hamida Patrick (July 28, 1987 - July 1, 2021).
Driven by community support, the mission of MIDA is to honor Hamida’s community-centered values by bringing together individuals and her favorite local businesses to support common good - specifically, gynecological health and cancer prevention.
THE MISSION
Through MIDA, we ask local Charleston businesses and individuals to join us in donating directly to her fund at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center,

an 71 NCI Designated Cancer Center in the US. All proceeds are tax-deductible and support cancer prevention and control, with specific focus on underserved communities across 20 Charleston counties.

Funding supports:

  1. MUSC Mobile Health Unit, a state-of-the-art bus equipped with a mammography suite and exam rooms. It travels to rural and medically-underserved areas to provide free cancer screening (mammograms, pap smears), HPV vaccinations, education and follow-up services. Surveys report that 80% of MHU patients would not have otherwise sought out cancer services. From 2017-2019, MHU has performed over 3300 mammograms and 120 pap smears, and confirmed 11 cancer cases.

  2. Scientific research for developing novel therapies for gynecological malignancies.
FUNDRAISER GOAL
The goal in this inaugural year is to raise $25,000 dollars from community business and individuals. MIDA is in search of someone to match the $25,000 goal, for a total of $50,000.
In February 2023, MUSC Hollings will provide top donors an opportunity for our funds to be matched once more at a live event during their annual fundraiser on Kiawah, Gourmet and Grapes, totaling our goal at $100,000.
HOW TO DONATE:
Please go to MIDA's website to make a donation and be sure to fill out our contact form on the website. MUSC is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible. MUSC will send you confirmation of your donation, which can be used to claim a deduction on your U.S. taxes.
HOW MIDA THANKS OUR PARTICIPANTS
Closer to the event date, we will follow-up with MIDA-branded collateral (banners, hats, stickers) to proudly display your participation. We will update our website and Instagram to feature participating local businesses.
ABOUT HAMIDA

Hamidatu Fatmata Ravenel Patrick passed away in July of 2021 after a battle against her 2019 cervical cancer diagnosis. The cornerstone of Hamida’s unyielding support to the Charleston community was participation. Professionally and personally, she showed up and gave back, always with unity as her focus. Her innate ability to connect with another person or find a way to create unions between others made her magnetic.

Nothing was ever exclusively professional; she worked in several retail locations including Billy Reid and Hampden Clothing, both on King Street. In addition, Hamida was a proud member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry. Being in Hamida’s orbit meant she took personal care in the success and well-being of every person she met.

Thank you,
Hart Hagerty and Blaine Wise
